Saint-Omer

This was our first full day in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region and since the heavy rain showed no signs of abating we decided to visit the nearby town of Saint-Omer.

We were lucky in that our visit coincided with market day so we made our way to Place du Maréchal Foch (the town square) where the market was in full swing. Local French markets are definitely the place to shop.

The highlight of Saint-Omer must be Cathédrale Notre Dame. Like many other French towns the cathedral is surrounded by other buildings which makes it rather difficult to photograph as a whole, though there are numerous architectural details to occupy the lens.
