Church of St. Lazare, Avallon

Avallon is a fortified town that lies between two ravines overlooking the Vallée du Cousin. It is a quiet market town now, and is ideally situated for venturing into the heavily forested Morvan region.

On a Saturday morning La Place Géneral-de-Gaulle hosts the local market, while just a short walk away in the old quarter is the Tour de l'Horloge clock tower which leads through to the Church of St. Lazare and the ramparts of the Promenade de la Petite Porte. The ramparts provide a convenient platform to admire the tremendous views across the Vallée du Cousin and the Morvan region.

An evening stroll around the historic quarter of Avallon. Unfortunately, each occasion we visited the Church of St. Lazare a service was in progress so we were unable to photograph the interior.
